WHAT DOES A CABINET REMODEL LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Contrary to popular belief, a cabinet remodel does not necessarily mean ripping out the old ones and replacing them. Sometimes it's simply replacing the existing glides with full extension glides (imagine actually being able to see the back of your drawer when you pull it out!). Sometimes it's replacing doors and drawer fronts. Or perhaps it's adding glass panels to some of your doors. So, what does it look like for you?

Share your vision. We will build it.

VISION WOODWORKS ATTENDS NEXGEN EVENT

Vision Woodworks had the pleasure of attending the October 2010 NexGen event, sponsored by Stiles Machinery, Biesse, Costa and Grissom, C.R. Onsrud, Delmac and Holzma. The experience was extremely beneficial to our company. The event was well done, and we were very impressed with the one-on-one time each company spent with us. Stiles has written a press release (with our name in it!) about the event. Follow the link below.

A BEAUTIFUL NORTHWEST HOME GETS AN UPDATED KITCHEN

This home has features most larger kitchens only dream of: a wine rack, a split-sliding cutlery drawer (one drawer that has a sliding top portion for access to the cutlery below), a built-in coffee maker, a pull-out spice rack, an under cabinet storage area with a flipper drawer, a rack for holding pot-lids, an open bookshelf on the peninsula...you get the idea. The kitchen has exposed beams, in keeping with the home's "Northwest" feel. In addition, this kitchen has a sweeping view of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. The wood is vertical grain fir which was sequenced and matched the entire height of the cabinets. Not only do they boast a medium-dark finish, they're "built green". The full wall of upper cabinets on the back of the kitchen provide multitudes of storage, with room to spare for lighted display areas. Amazing.

Be sure to check out the Sept/Oct 2010 issue of the 425 magazine (found in many locations--Fred Meyer being the easiest to find it at). One of our jobs was featured in there as having won 2 awards from the NKBA: The President's Award (the highest award, in this case) featuring the kitchen, and second place for powder bath. The article starts on page 177. You can also check out the following links:

A GREAT IDEA FOR A BAD CLOSET

This closet was previously unusable. The house was built in the 1950's....that said, design isn't what it is today. The closet space is very narrow, and was completely open, save for one rod placed near the top. It also an old hollow mahogany door that swung out.

What do you do with a space like this? Plenty!

We built a whole new closet system, that looks like a piece of furniture because of it's "feet". The 3 drawers on the bottom are plenty deep for lots of storage. Since this closet was going in a baby room, it worked great to put the 3 drawers on the bottom, since baby clothes don't require much height. In addition, we put a second rod in back, and lower than the front rod. This allows for double the hanging room. Again, this works because baby clothes and baby hangers don't take much space. Then on top, the shelf provides more great storage space. Not only is this closet now completely usable, it's also very attractive--not a word often associated with closets.

What is your unusable space? Give it to us. We're good with things like that.

MADRONE BURL

Here are some up close shots of a job we did using madrone burl, nicely outlined with a more straight-cut burl. Madrone is considered an exotic wood, and is native to Washington. It has a more red/orange natural color. Wow, beautiful!

ANOTHER GREAT IDEA

Here's another great idea for a tight space. This spice rack is below the previously mentioned cookbook nook and wine rack, between the refrigerator panel and stove. What a great way to store spices! Where else would you put them?

MAKING THE MOST OF TIGHT SPACES

The great thing about doing custom cabinetry, as opposed to purchasing pre-made cabinets at the big box stores, is that we use every square inch there is to use. There is zero waste. Below is a kitchen we worked on. It was a small kitchen, and every inch had to count. In this small space between the refrigerator panel and stove, we designed a cookbook nook and a wine rack. How clever is that? You never know what you could do with your kitchen. The smallest of places, when used properly, could save you a lot of headache trying to figure out where else to store those items. Stay tuned for more tips!

END-GRAIN LYPTUS

We just delivered a job, and part of it was an end-grain lyptus counter top. Wow! It was absolutely stunning. That's the great thing about our company--we get to work with all sorts of beautiful wood options--things that ordinary cabinet shops don't even offer. Here are some pictures of what end-grain lyptus looks like.

NEED ADVICE?

Do you need advice on how best to clean the wood pieces (furniture, cabinets, etc) in your house? Just ask. We'll help.

One general rule for cleaning wood is use a lightly damp cloth. This is easy on the wood, and can clean most of the every day smudges.

CHALKING UP ANOTHER AWARD

Vision Woodworks, Inc is excited to announce that yet another of its projects has won a REX award. It was announced in June that the Redmond project won in the “Kitchens More Than $175,000” category. In this breathtaking kitchen, glazed finished upper and lower cabinets stand as a backdrop to an elegant mahogany island with French curves. It is no wonder it won a BIAW (Building Industry Association of Washington) award in 2009, and a REX (Remodeling Excellence) award in 2010 from the Master Builders Association. A big thank you to Singleton Construction for coordinating this project.
